Configuration drift

Drift means an agent's effective configuration does not match FleetAMP's desired version for that collector.

Two-version view​

Fleet and drift views show both:

  • Central version — the approved version FleetAMP expects.
  • Agent version — the effective version reported by the collector.

This distinguishes a pending rollout from an out-of-band change or failed apply.

Policy modes​

  • Report detects and records drift but leaves the agent unchanged.
  • Enforce sends the approved snapshot back to the agent. A successful action is recorded as Drift detected; reverted to approved version vN.

Enforcement uses the collector's actual desired snapshot, including any approved label-targeted deployment. It does not replace the agent with an unrelated latest group version. Repeated or unresolved drift remains visible for investigation, and every detection and remediation is audited.
